13.Teadustöö põhisuunad Pildi- ja kaardiandmete seostamine loodusvaatlustega statistiliste ja intellektitehnika meetodite abil. Pilditõlgitsus ja mustrituvastus. Problemaatika hõlmab sobivate indikaatortunnuste otsimist keskkonnaseisundi hindamiseks, keskkonnakaitseliselt väärtuslike piirkondade eristamiseks, üksikute liikide esinemisootuse hindamiseks ja taimkatte kaardistamiseks satelliidipiltide, aerofotode ja kaardiandmete järgi. Sealhulgas koha ümbruse tunnuste kasutamine, indikaatorväärtuse sõltuvus arvesse võetava ümbruse ulatusest ja kaugusest.

13.Current research program Connecting image and map data with nature observations using statistical and Artificial Intelligence methods. Image interpretation and pattern recognition. The search of indicative parameters for environmental monitoring, for delineating valuable habitats, for mapping locations of probable occurrence of species, and for plant cover mapping with combined use of field observations, existing map and image data, incl. the use of neighbourhood characteristics and the extent of indicative neighbourhood.
