13.Teadustöö põhisuunad Aastatel 1987-1999 oli põhilisteks uurimissuundadeks ranniku ja sisevete optiliste omaduste uurimine ning veekeskkonna seisundi hindamiseks vajalike distantsmõõtmiste meetodite väljatöötamine.
Aastatel 1999-2002 oli minu põhiliseks uurimisteemaks korallide seisundi hindamiseks kaugseire meetodite väljatöötamine kasutades selleks nii veealuseid optilisi mõõtmisi kui ka lennuvahendilt ja satelliidilt tehtud pilte.
Aastatel 2002-2004 olen tegelesin põhiliselt kaugseire meetodite väljatöötamisel hindamaks lahustunud orgaanilise aine ja süsihappegaasi hulka järvedes, mis on vajalik paljude limnoloogiliste probleemide uurimisel aga ka globaalsete kliimamudelite ja süsinikuringe uurimisel.
Käesoleval ajal tegelen kõigi eelpoolmainitud uurimisteemadega ning lisaks sellele ka sinivetikate ja põhjataimestiku kaugseire probleemidega.

13.Current research program 1987-1999 studies on optical properties of coastal and inland waters. Developing remote sensing methods and algorithms for quantitative mapping of water quality parameters in turbid coastal and inland waters
1999-2002 studies on optical properties of coral reef habitats. Developing methods for mapping coral reef habitat by airborne and satellite remote sensing
2002-2004 developing algorithms for mapping of disoolved organic carbon and CO2 in boreal lakes by remote sensing. The main aim of this research is improving of global carbon budget models.
At the present time I am involved in resarch related to all above mentioned topis besides developing remote snsing methods for quantitative mapping of cyanobacterial blooms and mapping of shallow water benthic habitat.
