13.Teadustöö põhisuunad • Tsetrarioidsete samblike (fam. Parmeliaceae, Ascomycota) süstemaatika ja fülogenees — informaalse rühma, mis hõlmab u. 140 liiki kogu maailmast piiritlemine, enam kui 20 perekonna asendi määratlemine süsteemis ning nende fülogeneesi rekonstrueerimine.
• Eesti lihhenofloora — Eesti samblike herbaariumi andmebaasi loomine ja kureerimine (TU-s); samblikuliikide levik Eestis.
• Süstemaatika ja fülogeneetika teoreetilised probleemid, kladistilise analüüsi rakendamisvõimalused. Bioloogilise informatsiooni andmebaasistamine.

13.Current research program • Systematics and phylogeny of cetrarioid lichens (fam. Parmeliaceae, Ascomycota) — the informal group includes ca 140 species from the whole world; phylogenetic affinities and delimitation of 23 genera based on the cladistic analysis.
• Lichen flora of Estonia — databasing of the herbarium of Estonian lichens in TU; distribution of lichenized taxa in Estonia.
• Theoretical problems of systematics and phylogenetics; usage of the cladistical analysis; databasing of biological information.
