title: TIME-RESOLVED SPECTROSCOPY OF NEW SCINTILLATION MATERIALS
reg no: ETF5045
project type: Estonian Science Foundation research grant
subject: 1.3. Physics
status: completed
institution: Institute of Physics at University of Tartu
head of project: Svetlana Zazubovitš
duration: 01.01.2002 - 31.12.2004
description: The main goal of the project is a detailed spectroscopic study of new and improved scintillation materials for scientific, medical and industrial applications, elaboration of the methods for the improvement and optimisation of the characteristics of these materials, and searching for new systems perspective for the scintillation applications. In 2002, we plan a study of the origin and detailed structure of various impurity and exciton states, the processes of the radiative and non-radiative decay of these states as well as the energy migration, energy transfer and charge transfer processes in Ce3+-doped and Zr4+- or Th4+-codoped YAlO3 perovskites, in undoped and Mo6+-, Y3+- Gd3+-doped lead tungstates, and in Ce3+-, Tb3+-, Pr3+-, Mn2+-doped Gd-rich phosphate glasses, which are expected to replace the currently used materials and significantly increase the performance of scintillation detectors in several fields of applications.
