description: The main objective of the study is to describe the coping strategies of the single elderly in present-day Estonia, analyze problematic areas of coping and develop effective strategies of coping, taking into account the social dimensions of age from the gender and regional aspects.
Sub objectives of the study are:
- explain the essence of coping and its aspects through scientific literature of social gerontology (ways of coping, gender behavior, socioeconomic condition of urban and rural residents);
- analyze by using a survey the psychosocial coping (contentment with life, relationships, need for help, problems of coping, etc) of the single elderly in Estonia taking into account the gender aspect;
- interview the elderly to find their position in society, problems of coping, need for help, etc;
- find possibilities to advance coping with everyday life taking into account the innovative branch of social work - empowerment (mobilizing one's resources) method and other options fostering activity and contentment.
Expected achievements:
- developing psychosocial strategies of coping based on the opinions of the elderly and quantitative and qualitative data;
- one of the results of the project will be the identification of assumptions and risks of previous life that influence independent coping;
- compiling and publishing a collection of articles "Elderly in Estonia".
