duration: 01.01.2002 - 31.12.2004
description: The main goal of the project is to find out an optimum methodology for the experimental investigation of interdiffusion in ternary metallic systems which is based on the extracting of component's effective interdiffusion coefficients from experimental data and implementing them in the explanation of certain peculiarities of interdiffusion in such systems
.
This methodology will be applied for determination of interdiffusion parameters in comparison with existing methods in the systems Cu-Ni-Fe (1273 K) and Co-Ni-Fe (1373 K). The experimental concentration-penetration curves for several diffusion couples in these systems were recently obtained by means of X-Ray microanalysis on scanning electron microscope in the laboratory of solid state and materials chemistry at Eindhoven University of Technology by applicant in cooperation with prof. F. van Loo and co-workers.

As a result, a conception corresponding to the present situation, on the role and significance of several kind of interdiffusion coefficients in ternary metal systems should emerge, which would enable to determine the further research directions in this field.

At the same time new experimental data on the systems Cu-Ni-Fe and Co-Ni-Fe will be obtained.
