description: | The main aim of the proposed project is to study relationships between growth, moisture conditions and most important nutrients in deficit (especially potassium) on hummock-forming Sphagnum species on bogs.It is hypothesised in this proposal that: if the content of most important deficienty nutrient elements (N, P, K) in the fotosynthesising capitula is species specific and there is proceeding selective acropetal transport of elements through the stem to the capitula, then the growth and competative ability (at given level of N and P content) is higher for the hummock species possessing with higher K content in capitula on every certain relative height and what have more effective acropetale transport availability of solutes. There is planned to do different field and laboratory experiments to evaluate the hypthesis presented. Results of the proposed project can help to understand more thoroughly the character of Sphagnum interspecies competitional relationships, especially relationships between Sphagnum growth and nutrients in deficit (especially potassium) and height above the bog water level (moisture conditions). |
