title: Integration of Quality-Related Performance Measurement Models with Six Sigma Methodology
reg no: ETF5147
project type: Estonian Science Foundation research grant
subject: 2.10. Mechanical Engineering
status: completed
institution: Tallinn Technical University
head of project: Andres Kiitam
duration: 01.01.2002 - 31.12.2004
description:
The overall goal of the project is to develop an integrated approach to linking performance measurement models used in quality management with problems related to product variability reduction, with special emphasis on models and techniques used in six sigma programmes. The following aspects of the study are expected to be highlighted:
(1) identification and systematization of performance measurement models related to efficiency/cost of reduction of product variability components, including the inadvisability models for variability (e.g., Taguchi's loss function, dispersed desirability functions, fuzzy membership models);
(2) linking of local variability reduction and quality control problems to the performance measurement criteria system of the quality system as a whole (possibly using coordination and decomposition techniques of the theory of hierarchical systems e.a.);
(3) development of recommendations and techniques for the solution of quality control problems related to variability reduction (e.g., statistical process control, optimal and suboptimal process adjustment and control) on the basis of models mentioned above.

The expected result of the project is an integrated methodology and model base for the solution of quality control problems related to variability reduction, especially as targeted for application within six sigma programmes.
