title: Termo-Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication of Elastomers
reg no: ETF5177
project type: Estonian Science Foundation research grant
subject: 2.10. Mechanical Engineering
status: completed
institution: Tallinn Technical University
head of project: Mart Tamre
duration: 01.01.2002 - 31.12.2003
description:
The aim of the work is to carry out an extensive investigation of thermo-elastohydrodynamic lubrication phenomena in the contact of of relatively stiff body and an elastomer characteristic in the case in biomedicine as prostheses covered with elastomeric materials and also characteristic for machinery used as different sealing systems. The previous Grant of the applicant revealed an essential role of this kind of regimes which are in high interest of different friction systems design, where one body is an elastomer. The work is also aimed to support theoretically the widening use of polymers and polymer coatings in different technical applications.
As result of the work a test rig for the mentioned thermo-elastohydrodynamic regime will be completed and tests will be carried out on the test rig. Theoretical models will be developed on the base of test results and FEA analysis, which wil be a desig basis for improving prosteheses behaviour simulations and also in machinery for design and choice of sealing elements and materials.
