title: Optical Coatings for Solar Cells
reg no: ETF5182
project type: Estonian Science Foundation research grant
subject: 2.2. Materials Science
status: completed
institution: Tallinn Technical University
head of project: Tiit Varema
duration: 01.01.2002 - 31.12.2003
description: The project has the aim to study formation of ZnO and ZnO:Al thin films by catodic radiofrequency (RF) sputtering method and to develop high conductive and optically transparent electrodes for polycrystalline solar cells.
The choise of RF sputtering as a main method for ZnO and ZnO+Al thin films bases on a need for low temperature technology of ZnO electrode. The main structure layer of developed in the laboratory of semiconductor materials technology monograin layer solar cells is composit consisting of semicondustor crystals and polymer material. All ordinary used sputtering technologies for ZnO electrode production are high temperature technologies and lead to the thermal destruction of polymeric material in monograin layer and as a result to the contamination of the surface of crystals of semiconductor material.
