description: The object of the project is to compose a three-volume monograph about Asian history and international relations from 1945 till 2000 and at the same time survey different kind of contacts between Asian countries and Estonia.
The focus of the project will be on aspects of domestic, foreign and economic policy. A special part of the project will be dedicated to the Asian regional cooperation organizations.
The project would be sequential to O.M. Klaassen`s previously published books about Asian history ("Aasia ja Aafrika 1900 - 1918 ning kontaktid Eestiga" Tartu, 1992; "Aasia ja Aafrika 1918 - 1945 ning kontaktid Eestiga" Tartu, 1990). The quoted monograps are currently used as manual for students at the Tartu University.
The first part of the project would treat East Asian countries. The second part would treat South- and South-East Asian countries and the third part would treat MIddle East countries developments and problems.
The project is planned to publish in several volumes. The first part would be published at the end of 2003. The other parts before the end of 2005.
The project aims at giving a versatile survey of the contemporary Asian history. Planned books would be useful for teaching contemporary oriental history. There are planned to add to the monographs a lot of appendixies (maps, photos, transcripts of documents etc.). The monographs would be composed on basis of geographical-chronological method. More attention would be paid to the analyze of selected problems.
