description: | The ultimate purpose of the research is to study the rhythmical regularities of Estonian syllabic-accentual verse. There are also secondary purposes: 1) to work out the methodology of analysis of verse rhythm which would take into consideration all the essential factors: word-accent, quantity and word-end (the methodology of analysis of Russian or English verse is not suitable to describe Estonian verse; Jaak Põldmäe's system is not adequate as well: he does not consider the hierarchy of word-ends and quantity); 2) the rhythmical analysis of iambic and trochaic tetrameter of 20 chosen Estonian authors (here, in turn, many problems have to be solved, from the history of literature to the representation of data and methodology of analysis). The expected results: 1) the description of iambic and trochaic tetrameter of 20 more important Estonian poets; 2) the analysis of rhythmical regularities on both synchronous and diachronous level; 3) comparison with other verse traditions (at present, English, Russian, Polish and Czech verse are well described, to some extent also German and Finnish). The data base will be open, it will allow constant addition, perspectively, it will become a part of the data bank of Estonian verse study. The results of the sudy will be published in three forms: there will be a collective monography, an internet publication and a data-base on CD-ROM. |
