title: Thermochemical liquefaction of wood, other renewable fuels and/or organic wastes with oil shale for production of liquid fuels and chemicals.
reg no: ETF5360
project type: Estonian Science Foundation research grant
subject: 2.6. Chemical Engineering
status: accepted
institution: Oil Shale Research Institute at TTU
head of project: Rein Veski
duration: 01.01.2003 - 31.12.2006
description:
According to the designed) research project the regularities of the decomposition product forming by thermochemical liquefaction of wood (incl. timber and wood industry wastes) and other renewable fuels (peat, reed, straw etc.), organic wastes and oil shale separately and in co-processing will be elucidated. As a basic research method besides common thermal liquefaction methods pyrolysis gas chromatography will be used. Computerised gas chromatography-mass spectrometer for selected analyses of co-liquefaction products is also applied at the final stage of the project.
It is expected to find co-liquefaction materials and criteria to give quantitative (higher yields) and/or qualitative (better composition) synergistic effects.
It is expected that the regularities elucidated may serve as a base to plan applied research in order to reach from domestic non-renewable and renewable solid fuels to liquid ones to improve a secure and diverse supply of liquid fuels and enhance the ecological state.
