description: | The quality and reliability of measurement and analysis results is one of the most important aspects of the overall quality management at a laboratory. Metrological concepts - traceability, measurement uncertainty, etc - are key aspects of quality assurance of measurements. The issue of measurement uncertainty is especially problematic. While in physical measurements the concept of measurement uncertainty is well established, the field of chemical metrology is still in its infancy and there is a huge unsatisfied need for reliable methods and procedures for measurement uncertainty estimation of chemical measurements. The situation is especially problematic with complex analytical procedures, which can involve several steps (calibration, separation of the analyte from the sample, measurement on sample, etc). The goal of the present project is to develop reliable measurement uncertainty estimation procedures for a variety of complex analytical methods, including (but not limited to) pH metry and other potentiometric methods, spectrophotometry and various chromatographic techniques, including GC-MS. The outcome of the project will be scientifically sound and tested methods for measurement uncertainty calculation for complex chemical analysis procedures that are of interest to a wide range of analytical laboratories (environmental analysis, laboratories of industrial enterprises, health protection laboratories). |
