description: | The aim of the present study is to investigate the interrelationships of several known and novel cardiovascular risk markers on early stages of atherosclerosis in a group of healthy middle-aged Estonians (age > 40 years), as reflected by ultrasound measurements of the common carotid artery intima-media thickness (IMT) and noninvasive measures of arterial stiffness. Expected results. (1) Development of integrated approach for cardiovascular prevention among Estonians > 40 years of age (2) Verification of important parameters for quantification of early-stage atherosclerosis among middle-aged Estonians by means of complex estimation of cardiovascular risk profile (3) Improved assessment of cardiovascular risk with detection of novel modifyable risk factors (4) Detection of the high-risk middle-aged subpopulation for aggressive cardiovascular prevention. |
