title: Complex analysis of development of Estonian small and medium heat load size district heating networks..
reg no: ETF5641
project type: Estonian Science Foundation research grant
subject: 2.5. Power Engineering
status: completed
institution: TTU Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
head of project: Andres Siirde
duration: 01.01.2003 - 31.12.2004
description: The task of the present research is to carry out a detailed study of technically and economically feasible solutions for small and medium size DH networks. The research would consist of the following stages:
1. The present status of Estonian small and medium heat load size DH networks (existing technical resources, reliability, dangers to the environment)
2. Possible technical solutions which are efficient and economically and environmentally feasible: comparative analysis, elaboration of general methodologies
3. Possibilities to utilize modern technologies, boilerhouses that feed DH networks
4. Various imported and local fuels (oil shale, fuel oils, peat, wood fuel, waste) used for DH generating
5. Economical and technical possibilities to implement heat and power co-generation based on the existing DH networks and the role of CHP in the opening of the energy market
6. Need for reserve capacity in DH systems and economically feasible tehnical solutions
7. Legal framework (taxation policy, tariffs)
The research is planned to be carried out with active involvement of PhD and Master Students. Duration of the whole research work will be 2 years. In the course of the research work databases for analysis of the DH networks will be created and methodological solutions and computer software applications will be elaborated for economically feasible DH network rehabilitation. Recommendations for changes in the legal framework in order to will be provided. Methodological solutions for implementation of heat and power co-generation on the bases of DH networks will be provided.
