description: | This research aims at the development of methods for an effective automatic design space exploration based on selection of design alternatives for various design issues. Our concept relies on breaking down a complex system into a network of smaller and relatively independent sub-systems cooperating, however in such a way, that the original system's behavior is preserved. The main goal of the investigations is to develop new methods algorithms and software tools for digital systems decomposition with power, testability and performance evaluation. In order to achieve this objective, the main project activities are: ? determination of quality relationship measures related to digital systems for power, testability and performance estimation ? probabilistic (informational) behavior analysis of networks of finite state machines with data path ? investigation of asynchronous structures ? elaboration of decomposition procedures based on quality relationship measures ? application of functional partitioning technique to low power digital systems design. As a result of the project the following outcome is expected: ? a new method of decomposition of control intensive digital systems at register transfer level ? a partitioning technique of state-based descriptions targeting the network of synchronous units which are interacting asynchronically ? experimental investigation of introduced quality measures and developed approaches and algorithms ? incorporating decomposition based on quality relationship measures into a register transfer level design tools. The design system under development should not be only design automation software but it should be an educational system using opportunities of education via Internet. |
