description: | Contribution of knowledge rich services is very important in many areas. Such services have evolved through integration of web based systems, artificial intelligence (knowledge based systems) and several new technologies. Among these new technologies, the most important are those based on (1) intelligent agents and (2) various distributed frameworks and architectures developed initially for electronic commerce. As the services provided are often mission critical, the quality of systems must be high. One of the approaches improving systems quality is their validation. Moreover, interoperability of the systems is becoming more important, providing services that are based on several interconnected systems. Simulation experiments provide answers in the cases when actual testing is too time or resource consuming. The main goals of the investigation are: 1. Development of a methodology for validation of web based knowledge services utilising distributed architectures. Assessment of the value of simulation experiments in comparison with other validation procedures, such as testing. 2. Development of principles and metrics for achieving interoperability of web based knowledge services, assessment of the obstacles to achieving interoperability, evaluation of the interoperability metrics proposed in international standards. 3. Using the results of the above studies for development of specific knowledge services (software testing, information technology transfer, or e-commerce). Development of recommendations for selection between methods based on software agents and distributed architectures. The current project is initiated in the framework of the target financing grant of the Institute of Informatics (T757) and continues research performed in the ESF grant 4296 (finishes in 2002). |
