| description: | Considering the main aspects of psychology, pedagogy and computer science a conception of scientific visualization will be developed. The technical solution will be designed and both the exploratory and expressive learning environments will be programmed in co-operation with the computer science specialists of the Universities of Amsterdam and Turku. The application of the environments at schools allows clarifying the appropriate patterns characteristic for different phases of the problem-solving process. The appropriate instructions for scaffolding the learning process will be developed. It is predicted that scientific visualization will decrease students¿ misconceptions and improve their problem-solving skills through linking the conceptual understanding on macroscopic, microscopic, and symbolic levels. The appropriate learning materials will be developed according to the different individual abilities and learning-styles of the learners. It is supposed that hypothetico-predictive reasoning in the expressive environment and the following problem-solving activity in the exploratory environment will improve students¿ problem-solving skills through activating and linking their individual verbal and visual systems. |
