description: This archives-based interdisciplinary research project focuses on researching into national relationships, mass migrations and bilateral influences, developments, and their reasons through three centuries. Historians, linguists and geographers as representatives of five Chairs and three nationalities will participate: all prolific researchers of respective fields. Estonian-Russian relationships are analysed against a broader background (comparisons with German-Russian relationships, influences of various faiths). Main emphasis is placed on research into dynamics of cultural identity and mentality. The role of Tartu University as culture bridge between East and West alongside that of various cultural groups and Russian diaspora in Estonia is critically elaborated. The project¿s subtopics offer possibilities of substantial synergistic. Links between migration and social mobility are established. The project¿s product includes 6 monographs, reference-handbooks; numerous sources of Estonian history in Russian archives are introduced into scientific circulation. The project is integrated into the university¿s curriculum.
