description: The research topic covers ethnology and cultural anthropology as fields of social sciences, and folkloristics which belongs to the human sciences in Estonia. It is based on the long research traditions in these fields in Estonia and on the changes of paradigm that have emerged during the last ten years. This has in turn broadened the range of research topics and raised new tasks in the field of the dynamics of folk culture and in the analysis of its historical and social context. The goal of our research is to expound the meanings of cultural phenomena both for individuals and social groups in historical and social contexts. The new research topic will focus on the polymorphic manifestations of everyday culture, which will be interpreted as discursive practices. The four sub-topics are as follows: 1) oral history, 2) interpretation of traditional oral texts, 3) dialogue of cultures in the perspective of cultural anthropology, 4) analysis of contemporary folk culture.
