| description: | Estonian fishes (72 native and some alien species) will be studied in the faunal, community (assemblage), species, population, and individual levels. The main topics include 1) effects of anthropogenic (fishery et.) and natural (both biotic and abiotic) factors on the structure and dynamics of fish assemblages and populations, 2) effects of water salinity and temperature on fish reproduction and year-class strength, 3) genesis and composition of fish fauna, intraspecific structure (taxonomic statud of whitefish forms in the coastal sea; local populations of bream, etc.), 4) interactions of fish-eating animals with fishes and fishery, 5) interactions of alien species with local species. Project will be closely related to other (including applied) projects of the team. Four PhD students participate in the project. New aspects include introduction of GIS and ecological modelling in data analysis, and DNA analyses in phylogenetic and taxonomic studies. |
