| description: | The project is focused on fundamental studies of the human genome with the main goal to accomplish detailed genetic description of the Estonian population together with LD map. This information can be used in EGP immediately. In addition, we will study gene expression and protein synthesis in such a way that makes it possible to relate it to the SNP marker information. These analytical data can be used in drug development. The basic methods we are going to use to achieve these goals are: genotyping using APEX micro arrays (up to 60 000 SNPs), cDNA expression analysis on micro arrays (up to 35 000 cDNAs) and protein analysis (chromatography, 1-D and 2-D electrophoresis, MALDI-TOF and protein micro arrays). Comparative genomics will be used to compare mouse and human genomes in order to find new candidate genes involved in regulatory pathways and diseases and to generate K/O mice as disease models to prove the hypotheses. As a new technology, we will implement in situ oligonucleotide array synthesis using Febit approach. Estonian DNA samples will come from the EGP, the rest (Asian, African, Europe) through our collaborations. This project needs strong input of bioinformatics, which we have at hand, but need to develop further. |
