description: | The research will be performed in the following directions: 1. By using of representational difference analysis of cDNA (RDA) we are planning to reveal in the animal experiments new genes expressed in three brain structures (amygdala, orbitofrontal cortex and periaquaductal gray) due to the negative emotions. 2. The application of transgenic technology for revealing of function of genes established during RDA analysis. Simultaneously with cholecystokinin and its receptor genes we are working with wolframin and catechol-O-methyl-transferase genes in order to cause the targeted mutations of these genes and to generate the mutant animals, 3. The application of DNA microchip analysis for establishing of SNP in psychiatric patients. In collaboration with the Department of Psychiatry and Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, University of Tartu, the analysis of SNP in psychiatric patients (anxiety disorders and depression) will be conducted. The relation between the genetic changes and the symptoms of disease will be analyzed. 4. The application of microchip techology for the study of gene expression. In these experimets the animals with the different level of anxiety will be used. The relation between the expression of various genes in the brain structures and the animal behaviour will be analyzed. 5. The functional characterization of neurotransmitter pathways related to L-arginine. We are planning to study the activity and regulation of L-arginine/NO/cGMP and L-arginine/agmantine pathways in neurons in relation to psychiatric and neurologic disorders. |
