description: | The first goal of the project is to establish regularities in the geographical distribution of personality traits and mental abilities. Many environmental, cultural and geographical attributes are distributed regularly forming gradients of different strength and density. One seldom used possibility is to study individual psychological differences that are associated with these gradients as potential sources of variability in personality and meantal abilities. The main goal of this project is to elaborate new methods for the mapping of personality and mental abilities. Neural transmission takes time which poses an inescapable problem for the perceptual system how to time mental events. In the case of the perception of moving or changing objects temporal delays are transformed into position error containing a serious threat. One possibilty how perceptual systems can compensate perceptual delays is the chronometration of perceptual events -- time markers are assigned to events, indicating when exactly they have happened. The goal of this project is to study time markening and other ways of chronometration by means of psychophysical and electrophysiological (EEG) methods, including the method of temporal disassociation (Allik, Toom & Luuk, 2002). The solution of the temporal chronometration problem may be crusial in the understanding human consciousness in general. |
