description: | he nonactive power in converters can be, in principle, reduced to zero using a virtual transformer, a lossfree gyrator, or a lossfree resistor. Investigation of the converters with alternation of the parallel and series resonances carried out in TTU indicate the possibility to realize a virtual transformer or a lossfree resistor using switched LC circuits. If in each oscillation half-period a LC circuit will be some times switched from parallel to series resonance connection and vice versa, then we have a new steady-state condition. Impedance of the parallel resonance circuit is high while that of the series resonant circuit is low. Therefore, ratio control of the time-intervals with parallel and series resonance enables to control the mean impedance. Such a mean impedance can be considered as lossfree resistance because in condition of resonance there is (theoretically) no energy exchange between the resonant and the external circuits. New realizations of the lossfree resistor, the lossfree gyrator, and the virtual transformer give new possibilities to solve the troublesome power quality problems in power electronics. The main objective of the project is improvement of power quality in power electronic conversion circuits applying the preliminarily verified virtual transformer hypotheses. The new schemes synthesized reduce efficiently both the distortion harmonics and the reactive power. |
