title: The application of plant biotechnology methods in the research of potentially dangerous plant diseases and of long-term preservation of plant genetic resources
reg no: SF0442528s03
project type: targeted financing
subject: 4. Agricultural Sciences
status: accepted
institution: Plant Biotechnic Research Centre EVIKA at EAU
head of project: Viive Rosenberg
duration: 01.01.2003 - 31.12.2007
description: The aim is to study the correlation between plant cultivars, perspective breeding lines and plant diseases, disease resistance, yield capacity and quality, using plant biotechnology methods (meristem method, somaclonal variation, microcloning). The correlation between genetic stability, morphological characteristics, economical properties and various biotechnology methods in long-term preservation in vitro of plant biological diversity is also studied.
The project involves 3 sub-researches: 1) application of plant biotechnology methods in eradication of plants from viroids and potentially dangerous viruses and on increasing the disease resistance of plant breeding and seed production material; 2) factors affecting proliferation, regeneration, rooting and acclimatization fruit-trees and berry crops in tissue culture conditions; 3) plant biotechnology methods in preservation of plant genetic resources in vitro. The research development bases on scientific results obtained in EVIKA and elsewhere.
