duration: 01.01.2004 - 31.12.2008
description: Fertility means ability to conceive and to deliver viable child and it is influenced by reproductive behaviour and choices. As birth rate is very low in Estonia, it is especially important to study risk factors influencing reproductive health and their association with fertility and pregnancy outcome. By different studies 5-15% of couples in reproductive age are infertile, but there are no relevant data about Estonia. The scientific project consists of five sub-themes: (1) epidemiology of infertility and its specificity in Estonia; (2) improvement of the infertility treatment using IVF in a natural cycle and Doppler ultrasound; (3) development of new diagnostic methods for preimplantation genetic diagnosis; (4) susceptibility to recurrent spontaneous abortion and genetic variation at chorionic gonadotropin beta genome cluster; (5) prediction of preeclampsia by oxidative stress markers and Doppler ultrasound investigation
