| description: | The following problems of evolutionary animal ecology will be investigated: 1. Physiological and immunological ecology of mammals, birds and insects (physiological and immunological cost of copulatory behaviour in microtines, influence of certain ecological factors on the virulence of coccid infections in birds, relationship between activity of plasma alkaline phosphatase and environmental factors in birds). 2. Habitat selection and conservation biology (exploring the effect of provision of artificial nests to heterogeneous environment in the light of ecological trap concept, seeking the opportunities for optimal integration of species conservation and forest management). 3. Sexual selection theory (interaction between sexual traits of partners and its influence on reproductive behaviour in monogamous birds, relationship between resistance to infections and carotenoid-based sexual ornaments in birds, investigation of mechanisms of cryptic female choice in insects). 4. Life history trade-offs in insects (physiological and ecological constraints of growth in insects in the light of life history theory). |
