description: | The improvement of cultivation technologies of berries and fruits to increase the output quality, storability and efficiency of competition capability. To consider the Estonian products competition capability on local market it is important to emphasise the more efficient cultivation technologies, which would allow the competition on price. Essential is to improve the quality of production, not only originating from external quality but also more importance for customer is nowadays the healthy food. Additionally to vitamins are essential other antioxidants as well like anthocyans. Not all cultivated production does reach to the customer but relatively big amount is spoiled before the picking, some of it will be lost during the storage. During the pre research become obvious that more problematic are strawberries and apples. Depending on aforesaid the present research objects are chosen.¿ The present study will be focused on studying the influence of cultivar properties and growing technologies on fruit quality and storability of strawberries, apples and seabuckthorn. All the research results will be economically estimated.¿ The estimation will be given to species that showed their probable perspectiveness during the preresearch. Those berry species are half high blueberry and blackberry. The research results are first of all to put into practice for small businesses. Based on the 2001. data of Agricultural Census in Estonia is 1083 agricultural households that cultivated strawberries for sale. By research work are proved that strawberry cultivation is more distributed on the counties of Tartu and Jõgeva. The seabuckthorn growers are assembled to the profit association were belongs approximately 90 producers. Many producers are recently established their plantations and that number are not precisely known. There in Estonia were not any blueberry growers before, but during the last few years while the research results are propagated some growers established blueberry plantations. Nowadays there are 40 blueberry growers and the fresh berries are sold during the last two summers on markets. Parallel to that during the last few years are sold the frozen berries that are used on Tartu in Astri products. On frames of other projects there is very close collaboration with 11 berry growers. In their plantations are collected research data, moreover it helps to be in direct contact with arose and actual problems during the cultivation. The results, obtained during the research work are possible for producers to use to increase the production profitability (cheaper technologies; new cultures which would give higher price etc.) and the competitiveness (new cultures, healthier products). Additionally to producer and consumer are counted with influence to environment. New fertilization systems allow decreasing the usage of fertilizers. Burning on strawberry plantations helps to give up the usage of chemicals. Many cultivars under the testing, like seabuckthorn and blueberry are very undemanding species to soils, also they do not need the disease and pest control. |
