title: Molekulaarsete meetodite rakendamine Campylobacter sp.detekteerimiseks toiduainetes
reg no: PM15
project type: Põllumajandusministeeriumi põllumajanduslike rakendusuuringute ja arendustegevuse toetus
subject: 4.5. Veterinary Medicine
status: completed
institution: Estonian Agrobiocentre
head of project: Mihhail Sudakov
duration: 01.01.2001 - 31.12.2003
description: Campylobacter spp have become the most frequently reported cause of gastrointestinal infections in man, even more than Salmonella spp. Campylobacter is primarily transmitted by contact with contaminated food, particularly raw or undercooked poultry meat and possibly unpasteurised milk.
PCR is widely used diagnostic method for detection of foodborne pathogens.

The goal of our research is to collect strains of Campylobacter from Health Protection Institute and from veterinary laboratories; also the isolation of Campylobacter from poultry for epidemiological investigations. Our goal is to work out PCR diagnostic method for Campylobacter detection, which can use for routine diagnostic. This project is collaboration with EU project " Validation and standardization of diagnostic Polymerase Chain Reaction for detection of foodborne pathogens" (FOOD-PCR).
