title: SOVIET ESTONIA 1944-1953. Mechanisms and consequences of Sovietisation in Estonia in the context of development of Soviet Union and East-Europe
reg no: ETF5715
project type: Estonian Science Foundation research grant
subject: 6.1. History (incl. Archeology)
status: accepted
institution: TU Faculty of Philosophy
head of project: Tõnu-Andrus Tannberg
duration: 01.01.2004 - 31.12.2007
description: General purpose of the project is to particularize Sovietization of Estonia in 1944-1953 in the context of development of Soviet Union and East-Europe leaning on archive materials in Russia and in Estonia that have never been used before and mainly on subject-qualified literature and source publications that have been published in last ten years.

In the frames of the project is planned to publish collective monograph, articles relevant to the topic and at least two sets of documentation from soviet time and also defend 4-5 M.A. thesis on directly project-related subjects. The main hypothesis of this project is the point of view that Sovietization patterns put into practise by Moscow in subordinating Soviet Union` s outskirts (for example in Estonia) and East-Europe were partly similar and affected by confrontation between great powers (cold war). Therefore research made in the frames of this project should answer the question, which similarities and differences characterized Moscow` s politics in Sovietizing East-Europe and Soviet Union outskirts.

Tartu University¿s history department and National Archive take part in fulfilment of this project.
