| description: | The main targets of the project are: 1. A critical revision of the Helotiaceae concentrating at its heterogenity and finding out more precie limits of genera and subfamilies. Erecting new families for groups not closely related to the core members of the family using morphological, ultrastructural and molecular characters. 2. To elaborate a phylogenetic system of the Helotiales using molecular characters and lmiting more precisely the number and scope of families. Publishing a paper describing proposed changes in the systematics of the Helotiales. 3. To analyse the role of Helotiaceae (and all Helotiales) as dark septate endophytes (DSE) in plant roots and as components of mycorrhiza. 4. Compiling a lsit of Estonian Helotiaceae . 5 Tasks for 2004: idendifying and rearrangig specimens in the herbarium, field works for collecting living material and selecting representative specimens for rDNA analysis. Sequencing of rDNA and inserting the results into UNITE database. Searching for connections between identified species of Helotiaceae and dark septate endophytes (DSE) comparing their rDNA ITS1-ITS2 region sequences. |
