description: | This project is an organic part of the European Science Foundation (ESF) research programme Representation of the Past: National Histories in Europeand its main findings allow to write the sections to mirror Estonian (Baltic) history and its harmonious integration into the treatments of the history of the European historiography in several volumes. It presupposes contrasting the hitherto conceptions in the treatments of Estonian history with those in the works of historians of other countries, mapping difficult problems and (compared to the background of European historical science) conservatively-treated topics, eliciting and analysing various explanations (incl. border and national issues, objectivity and politicizing of the historical science, issues of government-placed orders and pluralism etc.). This project focuses on the research into the relationships between the development of the historical science and research institutions, schools as well as between those of professional and amateur histories. In fulfilling the project, the research methods worked out within the ESF programme will be used, continuous publishing of the results as well as the information exchange and discussions with the European historians cooperating in the frames of the programme are designed. For a successful execution of this project the results of the earlier research will be implemented (incl. Prof. T.Rosenberg'sresearch project on the historiography of Estonian history), likewise, the investigators' professionalism and experiences in international research projects and their knowledge of foreign languages will be counted on. Annually, a collection of papers based on the proposed research results will be published. Besides, we plan to publish papers in the thematic Europrojeci collections and European subject journals. The results of the project include a more effective integration of the Estonian historical science into the European research space, a closer regional partnership (incl. Latvian and Lithuanian as well as Russian historians, not participating in the ESF). The execution of the project goes hand in hand with the acquisition of modern research methods and along with it sharing the knowledge in Estonian historical publications and applying the research results in the study work in Tartu University. |
