description: The research project aims at analyzing the phonetic peculiarities of contemporary spoken Estonian by methods of experimental phonetics and sociolinguistics. The study will identify the main regional phonetic peculiarities and define the local accents of Estonian, taking into account their sociolinguistic complexity and significance. It will take into account the fact that regional accents need not be based only on the preservation of old dialect features, but they also reflect regional phonetic innovations that may arise, for example, from the social peculiarity of a region or the strong local influence of a foreign language. Thus, the study will also show the dynamics and innovative features of the pronunciation of contemporary Estonian.
