description: | The main goals of the Project: The application of thin films (including laminates) and fibres made of technologically perspective metal-oxide materials with large band gap and high refractive index (TiO2, ZrO2, HfO2) for novel purposes, the development and the laboratory-level realization of some optoelectronic devices based upon those materials. The development of efficient luminescent materials by (preferably rare-earth) doping of metal-oxide films and fibers; the using of of thin films as active areas of lasers. Expected results: 1. Metal-oxide films and fibres as waveguides and lasing materials with controllable characteristics; 2. Application of doped fibers as local light sources in the tips of (near-field) nanoscopes; 3. Doped fibers as nanoscopic light sources for tribological and nanolitographic applications. The postgraduate study planned in the Project is expected to lead to the writing of one PhD and at least two M.Sc Theses. |
