title: NANOPOWDERS AND NANOSTRUCTURED COATINGS
reg no: ETF5881
project type: Estonian Science Foundation research grant
subject: 2.2. Materials Science
status: accepted
institution: TTU Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
head of project: Priit Kulu
duration: 01.01.2004 - 31.12.2006
description: The main objective of the project is to produce nanometric metallic (Co- and Ni-based alloys) and ceramic powders (tungsten and chromium carbides) and on their base composite spray powders and thermally sprayed nanostructured coatings with higher wear and corrosion resistance.
For production of nanopowers high-energy milling methods (attritor and disintegrator milling, mechanically activated synthesis) and magnetohydrodynamic atomizing are planned to use. For production of composite spray powders agglomerating technology and from coating technologies HVOF spray method will be used to obtain of nanostructured coatings.
The expected increase in abrasive wear resistance of coatings is up to 50% without increase in hardness and decrease in toughness.
Key words: nanopowders, nanostructured coatings, thermal spray, powder coatings, wear resistance
