description: | We plan to find the explanation and to characterize the reasons of spatial heterogenicity in the incidence of TBE and epidemiological changes of TBE in Estonia, taking into account: 1. Genetic diversity of TBE virus strains distributed in two species of ticks and TBEV strains distributed in area with one vector for TBE virus. 2. Ecological factors - whether all three known TBEV genotypes (West, Far East, Siberia) co-circulate only in area of two species of ticks or throughout the territory of the country .Ticks of species I. ricinus can be a vector for genotype Siberia? 3. Redistribution of TBEV natural hosts (rodents) due to agricultural activities. 4.Characteristics of climatic factors in different geographic areas of Estonia. To realize these purposes is planned to study: 1. TBE incidence during 33 years (1970-2002) taking into account areas of two or one species of ticks - vector for TBEV, and places where TBE patients have got tick-bite. 2. Genetic diversity between TBE virus strains isolated from ticks and rodents collected in area of two species of ticks and in area of one species of ticks, places where TBE and Lyme borreliosis are recorded. 3. Climatic changes during last ten years in different geographical areas of Estonia. 4. Redistribution of natural hosts of TBEV and annual dynamic of rodents. 5. Redistribution area of ticks. Comparison of all obtained data can give explanation of spatial heterogenity in the incidence of TBE. The data can be used for public health program. |
