description: | In the framework of the project the attempts will be made to draw under a united methodology the analysis of temporal and spatial relations in different types of work of art, interference of art genres, and ontological problems of a creative work, influenced by the radical changes caused by the new technologies and the social status of the art. The following problems will be studied: - the dependence of a work's ontology on the means of expression, medium (including the relations of the pictorial and textual representation); - the construction of temporal-spatial relations in the visual representation; connections of these relations with the narrative. The central method of the project will be an interdisciplinary analysis based on the research results of art and culture theory as well as semiotics. The empirical basis of the project will mainly be Estonian visual culture of the last decades and bounder areas: cyberliterature, texts of film, animation and comics. The project will find an outlet in a jointly published collection of articles, the continuation of the series of international conferences "Place and Location". In Sept 24-26, 2004 international conference "Koht ja paik/Place and Location IV. Time and Environment" will be organised (in co-operation with the Institute of Art History, Estonian Academy of Arts and University of Tartu, Department of Semiotics). The publication of the series "Place and Location. Studies on Environmental Aesthetics and Semiotics" will continue. The project will be integrated into graduate and postgraduate studies, two PhD students and two MA students are involved in the researches. |
