reg no: ETF5966
project type: Estonian Science Foundation research grant
subject: 6.7. Literary Science
status: accepted
institution: Estonian Literary Museum
head of project: Sirje Olesk
duration: 01.01.2004 - 31.12.2007
description: The objective of the project is the analysis of literary contacts between Estonia and Europe and the analysis of reception, focusing upon Young-Estonia as a cultural phenomenon, including its background and its effect on the following periods. Attention will be paid on the emergence of different systems of literary values, competition and on the study of relations between different literary trends and texts. Mainly, the relations between Russian, Finnish, French, Scandinavian and German literatures and Estonian literary tradition will be observed.
The present project will form a basis for the applied project that will be carried out in the following years, aiming at the application of the model of electronic literary history ERNI (see www.kirmus.ee/erni) and its retrospective continuation, starting with Young-Estonians' texts from the beginning of the 20th century. The contents of the project would be the creation of an electronic archive of cultural texts necessary for teaching and studying literary history and digitisation of the more important texts. The database needed for the fundamental research for the project would be of international interest.

A seminar and two conferences discussing literary relations between Estonia and Europe will be held during the present project. Proceedings of these events will be published in a collection of articles.
