| description: | The aim of the project is to create the first comparative grammar of Estonian dialects. Attention will be focused on the analysis of dialectal inflection. The project will be carried out in cooperation of researchers of the department of dialectology and cognate language at the Institute of the Estonian Language, researchers of the department of history and dialects of the Estonian language at the University of Tartu, and researchers of Võru Institute. The project consists of three parts: (1) defining foundations of the comparative grammar of Estonian dialects on the basis of descriptions of dialect grammars in the volumes of academic publications of Estonian dialectal texts; (2) comparison of inflectional systems of Estonian dialects by means of formalized analysis of the texts of electronic database of Estonian dialects (completed with financial support of the ESF (1999, 2000-2003, grant 4192), includes authentic text materials from all Estonian dialects); (3) investigation of Võru morphology (elaborating the grammatical description of Võru dialect used in compiling the Võru-Estonian dictionary (Iva 2002, Võru Institute)). |
