project type: Estonian Science Foundation research grant
subject: 5.4. Demography

duration: 01.01.2004 - 31.12.2005
description: Two-year research project focuses on population policy acceptance in Estonia. Relying on a nationally representative sample survey the project addresses attitudes, values and preferences with respect to the key areas of modern population development, including family formation, fertility and childbearing, gender roles, reconciliation of work and family responsibilities, population ageing, intergenerational solidarity and foreign origin population. Over the years 2004-2005, the project foresees activities in two main directions: (1) development of database and data harmonisation, and (2) analysis of population policy acceptance in key areas of population development. In a broader framework, the project is aimed to support the integration of Estonia into the activities of international PPA programme, coordinated by the Federal Institute of Population Research (Germany). Results of the project are first published in the EKDK publication series, and summarised in the chapter of international monograph and journal article(s). The project supports the dialogue between policy actors and citizens in order to develop population policies which are both acceptable and implementable.
