| description: | The aim of the study is to work out scenarios for agricultural land use in Estonia considering political and economic driving forces as well as socio-economic and natural conditions of regions and to assess the impact of possible land use changes to bird populations in rural landscapes. To reach the goal the following tasks must be completed: To define and analyse the driving forces (economic, political, natural), which have determined the past and present land use; To develop land use scenarios for near future, taking into account the environmental and socio-economic situation and the driving forces (political and economic) for land use in EU; To prognosticate the development trends for land use, and to assess the possible impact to the avifauna of the agricultural landscape. To analyse the functions of agricultural landscape and the valuation attitudes of land-users and possible changes concerning the attitudes. Development of scenarios will be based on the land use analysis and prognosis model LUC, developed in International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis (IIASAs). For the developed land use scenarios visual models and maps will be created, and on the basis of these maps and models the attitudes of local people and the impacts of land use changes to the bird fauna will be analysed. The scientific importance of the study consists in working out and development of a new prediction model for land use, in which the bird fauna, as an essential component, will be taken into account. |
