description: | Balanced interaction of plant carbohydrate metabolism and mineral nutrition is of prime importance for the growth and stress tolerance of plants. The study helps to clarify the adaptation mechanisms of carbohydrate metabolism in trees to the variety of nutritional factors in soil. The aims of work: 1) to find the influence of soil reaction and nutrient availability on the carbohydrate metabolism and on the apparent photosynthetic electron transport in Scots pine; 2) to distinguish the influence of base cations from the multitude of elements in wood ash on the physiological parameters and growth of trees. Three groups of soil treatment are to be compared in plantation on the nutrient poor sandy soil: (a) the soil is treated with wood ash (0.5 kg m-2), (b) the soil is supplemented only with K-, Ca- and Mg-compounds found in wood ash, and (c) control, trees on untreated soil,. Expected results: 1) sucrose, hexoses, their ratios and photosynthetic electron transport are suitable for the screening of the state of trees 2) the K-, Ca-, Mg-compounds and change of soil pH are the main factors influencing the carbohydrates and photosynthesis of trees on the nutrient poor sandy soil; 3) wood ash stimulates the growth of trees. |
