title: Structure and spectra of stellar atmospheres and stellar winds; physical processes in them
reg no: ETF6105
project type: Estonian Science Foundation research grant
status: accepted
institution: Tartu Observatory
head of project: Arved-Ervin Sapar
duration: 01.01.2005 - 31.12.2008
description: - Generalization and improvement of program SMART and its transformation to modern computer language versions. Adopting of it for more sophisticated computations of the structure of stellar atmo-spheres and physical processes in them and of the synthetic stellar spectra. Making it to be available via Internet for astrophysicists and students. Elaboration of theory for some stellar atmospheres having more complicated geometrical structure and application of corresponding new programs.
- Elaboration of theory of overlapping doublet resonance line profiles and corresponding software, its application for study of stellar spectra. Interconnection of modelling of stellar atmosphere and stellar wind. Study of features due to stellar wind in stellar spectra.
- Contribution to diffusion theory for further explanation of abundance anomalies of heavy chemical elements and their isotopes in the atmospheres of chemically peculiar stars. Composition of correspon-ding software and its application for study of evolutionary changes of the abundances in the atmosphe-res of quiescent B and A stars.
- Elaboration of theory of radiation scattering processes in accretion disks of neutron stars and black holes in the cases of different values of their parameters. Application of results for study of evolution of accretion disks. Solution of inverse problems of radiative transfer due to molecular scattering, i.e. finding physical properties of stellar atmospheres from the emergent stellar spectrum.
