title: The influence of thermotherapy and growth hormones on the variability of potato meristem clone characteristics
reg no: ETF6124
project type: Estonian Science Foundation research grant
status: accepted
institution: Plant Biotechnic Research Centre EVIKA at EAU
head of project: Viive Rosenberg
duration: 01.01.2005 - 31.12.2008
description: The current research is a continuation of the investigations previously conducted in Plant Biotechnological Research Centre EVIKA in cooperation with scientists from other institutions.
The previous results have proved the existance of potato meristem clone variability. The meristem clones vary in yield, dry matter and starch content of tubers, some morphological characteristics and disease resistance. At present, the factors determining the variability are unknown.
The aim of current research is to find out the influence of the thermotherapy on the variability of meristem clones. The influence of growth hormones, the location of the meristem and some characteristics of meristem are also going to be detected.
No data from literature focusing on this topic is available. The results would have wider than local importance, being applicable in several geographical and economical conditions. The current research will provide the novel basic knowledge. The results can be exploited in potato initial seed propagation and breeding.
