title: The vines growth and tuber yield dynamics of potato meristemplants
reg no: ETF6132
project type: Estonian Science Foundation research grant
status: accepted

head of project: Katrin Kotkas
duration: 01.01.2005 - 31.12.2007
description: Up to now the dynamics of potato vines and tubers yield has been investigated when potato was multiplied as tubers. But there are no results about the dynamics of vines growth and tuber formation in growing potato as meristemplants in the field.
The aim of the project is to study correlations between the yield and tuber's size and plant multiplication method, leaf area index and duration of vegetation period.
A new knowledge about the correlation between vines growth and tuber yield of potato meristemplants grown in field depended on plant multiplication method, leaf area index and duration of vegetation period gives us a possibility in the future scientifically direct result in growing meristeemplants in the field.
On the base of results the method for multiplication of potato plants and growing of first tuber's generation in the field can be improved. This method can be used in potato seed production (the disease-free, high quality and corresponding on EU quality standards initial seed material; in breeding programme (disease-free and selected initial material); in potato production (high quality seed potato, high quality and marketable table potato).
