description: In different production processes many organic wastes are produced which disposal to landfills is not reasonable or cost-effective. Possible solution is the usage of composts produced from different industrial and municipal wastes in growing of ornamental plants and vegetables.

The goal of the research is to clarify the influence of different composts made from various industrial and municipal waste to the physical and chemical characteristics of the growing media of the plants and to find out the optimal appliances for different composts depending on the species, variety and cultivation method, to assure the quality and productivity of different ornamental and vegetable crops.

The proposed research will investigate compost usage possibilities in ornamental plant propagation in plant nursery, in urban horticulture and in vegetable production. It is important to evaluate the effects of compost use on soil chemical, physical and biological properties and potential disease suppressive effects to quantify the benefits of compost use relative to traditional production methods.

The results of research will give theoretical and practical argumentations to understand changes in soil properties and relations between plant growth and diseases related to the use of different organic composts. Using the results of research in practical actions could reduce expenditures related to organic waste disposal to landfills; the displaylife of ornamental plants lengthens and maintain costs are reduced; the product quality in plant nurseries improves; increases the quality of vegetable crops and field nursery products. The risk of environmental pollution decreases.
