title: Translation and reception theories a comparative perspective
reg no: ETF6466
project type: Estonian Science Foundation research grant
status: accepted
institution: University of Tartu
head of project: Stefano Montes
duration: 01.01.2005 - 31.12.2007
description: The scientific competence and potential of the research team enables new developments in the field of Estonian culture and research as well as involvement in international research, for three main reasons: firstly because of the efficient contacts with French universities in Paris, Tours and especially Orléans where small and big-scale cultures are being studied, which makes the collaboration essentially fruitful, without limiting it to exchange of research results only; secondly because of involvement of doctoral students of the University of Tartu who are able to deal with the corpus of translations from French which hasn't yet been systematically studied, partly in the lack of appropriate scientific potential; thirdly because of the work of the project director in merging the fields of semiology and cultural anthropology which can, especially in Estonia, produce results worthy of notice on the international level. The objective of the research project is, in three years time, to establish a corpus of French literature translated into Estonian, to analyse it in collaboration with foreign partners and publish the results both in Estonia and before the international public. The practical outcome of the project is a set of methodological materials for the use of Estonian translators and for translation training and studies. This would permit to involve future postgraduate and doctoral students in the project, who would thus be able to improve their knowledge of the subject and to find openings and support for publishing.
