description: The Second International Self-Report Delinquency Study (ISRD-2) co-ordinated by the Institute of Criminology, University of Lausanne, will start in 2005. The aim of the presented project is to ensure Estonian participation in ISRD-2 and to collect relevant data about extent and frequency of different forms of delinquent behaviour among juveniles. Official figures on crime and delinquency have serious limitations and self-report study provide an alternative source of information for official statistics. Important aspect of the study is cross-cultural and cross-national comparability of collected data using standardised research instruments. This study design creates possibility to draw comparisons over time that will allow policy makers improve or change their national youth policies. Generous empirical data is an invaluable tool to obtain more knowledge about stable correlates of crime and to test different criminological theories. The project will be conducted during the two year period (2005-2006). The preparational work began in September 2003, when consultations and co-ordinating meetings of participating researchers took place. In 2005 the self-report questionnaire will be translated in Estonian and Russian and adapted to the local circumstances. Special attention will be paid to sample design that has to be representative in different regions within the country. Data collection in all participating countries will start in September 2005. Second year of the project will be devoted to data analysis and preparation of final report. Previous results of the ISRD-1 have been published in two volumes by Kugler Publications. The interest shown by both, the UN and the EU together with high scientific reputation of the co-ordinating institution, ensures high level quality of the results of ISRD-2. To Estonian research community international collaboration in this field will produce great stimulus to the advancement of social science.
